1. Introduction
Welcome to myTE Prof! We're serious about protecting your privacy and handling your data in an open and transparent manner. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our platform.
2. Information Collection
We collect three types of data when you use myTE Prof:
- Personal Data: While using myTE Prof, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. This may include, but is not limited to, your email address, name, mobile phone number (used to send sign-in passcodes), gender, career stage, minority status, university affiliation, and department.
- Usage Data: We collect information on how the Service is accessed and used. This Usage Data may include information such as your computer's IP address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, and other diagnostic data.
- Encounter and Evaluation Data: We collect data related to Encounters you create on the site. This data may include, but is not limited to, information such as the Encounter's topic, date, number of attendees, and Evaluation details provided by learners in response to those Encounters.
3. Use of Information
The Data we collect is used for various purposes:
- To provide myTE Prof and its features to you
- To notify you about changes to myTE Prof
- To provide customer support
- To produce analysis that allows us to improve, fix, or otherwise support the growth of myTE Prof
- To support and enhance diversity and inclusion on our platform.
- To provide educators with valuable and timely feedback to help improve their teaching.
4. Consent
We collect and use your personal information with your consent. You give that consent when you create an account, where you confirm that you have read and agree to our Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at admin@myteprof.com. We will delete your personal information within 30 days of your request, as described in Data Retention below. Withdrawing consent means you can no longer use myTE Prof, since we cannot operate an account without the information needed to run it.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell or rent personal data to marketers or unaffiliated third parties. We share your personal data with trusted entities, as outlined below:
- Service Providers: We engage service providers to perform tasks on our behalf, and share information with them only to the extent each one needs to do its job. These are: our cloud hosting provider, which stores and processes platform data in Canada; our SMS provider, which receives your phone number to deliver sign-in passcodes; and our bot-protection provider, which processes IP addresses submitted through our public contact form. Each is bound by contract to protect your information and to use it only for the service it provides to us.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, or to respond to claims, or protect the rights, property, or safety of our company, employees, customers, or the public.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, bankruptcy, or other sale of all or a portion of our assets, your personal data may be among the assets transferred.
6. Data Protection
Your information is encrypted while it travels to and from myTE Prof, and encrypted again while it is stored.
Signing in takes two steps: your password, and a one-time code sent to your phone. Because of that second step, a stolen password on its own will not get anyone into your account. Your password is stored in a form that we cannot read.
Only the people and systems that need your information to run the platform and support you can reach it. We review our access controls and list of privileged users whenever someone joins or leaves our team.
If a notice about your personal information is ever required, it is sent promptly and includes anything we recommend you do. Institutions are notified through their designated contact.
7. Your Rights
You have rights regarding your personal data. These include the right to access, correct, delete, or transfer your data, as well as the right to object to or restrict certain processing of your data. If you wish to exercise these rights, please contact us at the address below.
8. Data Location and International Transfers
myTE Prof is hosted in Canada. All account, encounter, and evaluation data is stored and processed in Canada.
Two limited exceptions involve service providers outside Canada. When you sign in, your mobile phone number is transmitted to an SMS provider to deliver a one-time passcode. When you use our public contact form, your IP address is processed by a bot-protection provider. No account information, and no encounter or evaluation data, is involved in either case.
9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We're not advertisers, and we don't need to be creepy! We use one cookie: a session cookie that keeps you signed in. It expires when your session ends and holds no personal information.
We use no advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies, and no third-party trackers. We do not track or make any attempt to link your activities on the myTE Prof platform with activities elsewhere on the internet.
10. Data Retention
We retain and protect your data as long as you use the myTE Prof service. You can request that we delete your account or remove your data at any time using the contact information below.
Deletions will be processed within 30 days of your request. When we delete your data, we will remove all personal information. Secondary data, such as anonymized usage information from your time on the platform, may not be removed, however, this secondary data will have no further links to your identity or former account.
11. Changes to This Policy
This policy is updated from time to time. The last updated date will be adjusted to reflect any changes, and we will notify you using the contact information we have collected in advance of any changes.
12. Contact Information
Responsibility for compliance with this policy rests with myTE Prof's Chief Information Security Officer.
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests with respect to this policy, you may contact us at admin@myteprof.com.
